Aug 29th - Sep 5th: South Haven, Bloomfield Hills, Benton Harbor

Happy Labor Day!  We are presently weather bound in Benton Harbor / St. Joseph, MI.  The winds started howling from the north yesterday and today the seas were forecast to be 12-14 feet, so we decided to stay in the marina (and will probably be here tomorrow).

When last we updated we were in Saugatuck, MI.  Continuing down the coast, our next stop was South Haven, MI.  It was another great little town with a superb city marina.  We celebrated our anniverary with a nice meal at an Italian restaurant and arrived back to the boat to find a delicious bottle of Korbel and a card from Christine and Larry Hayden (BLUE SKIES) (thanks again!).

From South Haven we moved to Benton Harbor / St. Joseph.  The two cities are separated by a river with St. Joseph being the nicer of the two.  We decided ahead of time this would be our base for renting a car and visiting my daughter Pam and her husband Brian in Bloomfield Hills, MI.  Bloomfield Hills is about 30 miles outside of Detroit on the other side of the state.  Luckily, we were traveling west to east (instead of south to north) so it was only a 3 hour drive.  The Boyz spent a couple of days in the "spa."  We were introduced to my first grandchild, Everett.  Everett is 3 months old and a happy, active, cutie-pie.  During our visit he managed to rollover from his stomach to his back.  I think Pam and Brian are going to have their hands full in the coming months.  The visit with Pam and Brian was wonderful as always, with great food, fine wine, and a delightful evening at the Detroit Museum of Art.  The only complaint is that the time passes to quickly.

Returing to St. Joseph's, we toured the city and watched as Lake Michigan roiled to a pitched fury.

From here, depending on the weather, we head to Hammond, IN which will be our base for visiting Chicago before heading down the rivers.

St. Joe has animal art throughout

which are fake?
